So Many Miles

I'm coming up short
I'm trying as hard as I can
Oh, I have walked so many miles
Just to come
and I don't know where I am
Or who I am
Oh, who I am
I'm pretty sure I'm coming home
Oh

Headed to the other side
What's that in my ear?
Finding the lost way
to the center of the universe
...And what did you feel when they took away your home?
With the trees and the leaves,
so lost and alone
So what's behind your eyes?
Undress your demons
Paint them in colors
of your most cherished dreams
So out the ceiling
and into the sun
How great it is
to not be anyone
How great it is
to not be anyone
How great it is
to not be anyone

Mama never told me what happens after the credits rolled, and you kissed the boy and the music played.
I just assumed it'd be simple
Love should be simple
Mama never told me what it felt like to have your skin seem too big and too small at the same time when you don't know what to say
And your baby is crying at the stars that promised him everything but didn't give him a damn thing
Mama never told me how to look in someone's eyes and to tell them that love wasn't fair, that the world was unfair
Well hey, I guess it's alright that love exists, right?
Mama never told me it'd be easy
but at least it's there
At least I got someone's eyes to look into in the morning after having a nightmare, waking up to the face of someone who adores you
As soon as those big eyes set sight for my skin, I know that everything will be okay
To feel a big hand in mine when you walk down the street, when you're walking through a place, and there's too many goddamn people on the sidewalk, and you can hold someone close
When everything is falling apart, there's someone there to hold you
There's someone there to hold your pieces together,
Someone to look in their eyes, and to tell them how afraid you are of death
Someone to say they understand
Someone to hold you close even after you say it
I guess I'm happy it's there
I guess I'm real happy it's there
'Cause his eyes feel like sunshine
Beatin' down on my skin
Making it sparkle
'Cause his eyes feel like sunshine and I'm afraid of the dark
'Cause his eyes feel like sunshine and it's been winter for as long as I can remember
'Cause his eyes feel like sunshine and I can't get enough
Mama never told me love could be this magical
Mama never told me because I don't like she ever felt anything like this
It doesn't feel like a movie
There's no music that plays
There's no music that plays
But his eyes feel like sunshine and that's okay with me
'Cause his eyes feel like goddamn sunshine and that's okay with me
'Cause his eyes just feel like sunshine and that's okay with me
'Cause his eyes just feel like goddamn sunshine and that's okay with me
Mama never told me what the sun felt like and that's okay with me
'Cause his eyes feel like goddamn sunshine and that's okay with me
'Cause his eyes feel like sunshine and that's okay with me
'Cause his eyes feel like sunshine and that's okay with me
'Cause his eyes feel like sunshine and that's okay with me
That's okay with me
That's okay with me
